Designing spaces that work better for people
Poorly designed spaces cost organisations more than they realise. They affect wellbeing, productivity, customer experience and business performance. Multi Story Thinking helps organisations create workplaces, hospitality environments and student living spaces that support people, improve performance and unlock the hidden value within their environments
Designing spaces that help people and organisations thrive
Every successful project starts with understanding people. For more than twenty-five years, I've been helping organisations create workplaces, hospitality environments and student living spaces that improve the way people work, interact and experience their surroundings. I believe great design isn't about following trends or creating beautiful images for a portfolio. It's about solving problems, supporting people and helping organisations get more value from the spaces they already have. Whether I'm working with a growing business, a university, a hospitality venue or a community organisation, my aim is always the same: to create environments that work better for the people who use them.
More Than Interior Design
People often assume they need an interior designer.
In reality, they usually need someone who can help them answer much bigger questions.
-
How can we encourage collaboration?
-
How do we improve staff wellbeing?
-
How can our workplace attract and retain talented people?
-
How do we increase revenue from our hospitality space?
-
How do we make better use of our existing building?
-
How do we invest wisely in furniture that will last?
Design is simply the tool that helps answer the
These are the questions I enjoy solving.

A different perspective
What makes my approach different is the combination of commercial practice, furniture expertise and academic research. Throughout my career, I've worked across an unusually diverse range of projects, from offices and innovation hubs to cafés, restaurants, student accommodation, sports clubs, charities and community facilities. Every project has reinforced the same lesson. Successful spaces begin with understanding how people behave rather than simply how buildings look. That belief now underpins every project I undertake.
Experience that bridges industry and academia
One of the greatest strengths I bring to clients is the ability to combine practical experience with current research. Alongside leading Multi Story Thinking, I am Award Leader for the BA (Hons) Interior Design programme at the University of Plymouth. Working with future designers keeps me connected to emerging ideas, evolving technologies, and new ways of thinking, whilst my commercial practice ensures those ideas are grounded in the realities of delivering successful projects for clients. It's a two-way relationship.
-
Industry informs my teaching.
-
Research informs my design work.
Clients benefit from both.
