South Tees Hospital Charity
Fundraising hub
Located within the main public concourse of The James Cook University Hospital, the South Tees Hospitals Charity Hub was designed to create a visible, accessible, and welcoming presence for the charity at the heart of the hospital environment. The charity supports patients, families, visitors, and staff across South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by funding equipment, research, training, environmental improvements, and the additional resources that help enhance patient care and experience.
The design transformed a traditional office environment into a highly visible engagement space that combines fundraising, community outreach, donor engagement, and administration within a single integrated hub. Positioned within a busy public area, the space was designed to raise awareness of the charity's work while creating opportunities for meaningful conversations with patients, visitors, volunteers, and supporters.
A strong visual identity was developed around the charity's branding, using large-scale graphics, colour, and environmental messaging to create a distinctive presence within the hospital setting. Glazed walls and entrance screens maintain transparency and openness, allowing the charity team to remain visible and approachable while providing privacy where required.
The interior incorporates welcoming consultation and meeting areas that support donor discussions, volunteer recruitment, fundraising activities, and partnership development. The design balances professionalism with warmth, helping to create an environment that feels accessible, positive, and community-focused rather than institutional.
By bringing the charity team into a prominent and highly accessible location, the hub helps strengthen engagement with hospital users while increasing awareness of the charity's role in improving healthcare environments and patient wellbeing across the region. The charity supports more than one million people served by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust across Teesside and North Yorkshire.
